La premiazione annuale dei Grammy, presentata da Trevor Noah, si è tenuta domenica sera alla Crypto.com Arena di Los Angeles.
Alla cerimonia hanno partecipato alcune delle più grandi star della musica, nella speranza di aggiungere l’iconica statuetta a forma di grammofono alla loro collezione di premi.
Beyoncé ha guidato le nomination di quest’anno con 11, seguita da Charli xcx, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar e Post Malone con sette ciascuno, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan e Taylor Swift con sei ciascuno e Jack Antonoff e Shaboozey con cinque ciascuno.
“È stato un anno incredibile per la musica e queste nomination riflettono il lavoro di un organismo di voto che è più rappresentativo che mai della comunità musicale”, ha affermato il CEO della Recording Academy, Harvey Mason Jr., in un comunicato stampa in occasione dell’annuncio della lista dei candidati a novembre.
Mason ha continuato, “Il Grammy è diventato il premio più ambito della musica proprio perché il riconoscimento proviene dai propri pari e sono così grato ai 13.000 membri votanti dell’Academy che si prendono il tempo di valutare tutta la musica straordinaria, esprimere i loro voti e onorare i loro pari. Congratulazioni a tutti i candidati.”
Tanti gli artisti gli artisti che si sono esibiti quest’anno: Charli xcx, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Benson Boone, Doechii, RAYE, Shakira e Teddy Swims.
La cerimonia, solitamente dedicata allo sfarzo ed al glamour, quest’anno ha cambiato radicalmente tono per sostenere gli sforzi di ricostruzione dopo gli incendi che hanno devastato Los Angeles.
La Recording Academy ha incentrato i propri sforzi per sensibilizzare l’opinione pubblica e raccogliere donazioni e risorse per i fondi a beneficio delle decine di migliaia di vittime degli incendi.
Ben Winston, uno dei tre produttori esecutivi dei Grammy, ha dichiarato al New York Times che la premiazione “avrebbe reso Los Angeles una protagonista importante nella serata”.
Per commemorare la devastazione causata dagli incendi di Los Angeles, lo spettacolo è iniziato con i Dawes (composti da Taylor Goldsmith, la cui casa con la moglie Mandy Moore è stata colpita, e da suo fratello Griffin, la cui casa è andata a fuoco ) che hanno cantato I Love LA di Randy Newman.
Ad accompagnarli c’era un assortimento di musicisti stellari tra cui Brad Paisley, Brittany Howard, Chris Martin, Jacob Collier, John Legend, Sheryl Crow e St. Vincent.
Nel segmento In Memoriam, che rende omaggio alle star della musica scomparse nel corso dell’ultimo anno, Chris Martin ha cantato la canzone dei Coldplay All My Love, dedicata, tra gli altri, a Liam Payne e Toby Keith.
L’omaggio è iniziato con spezzoni di filmati di Liam Payne, compresi quelli risalenti al periodo in cui faceva parte degli One Direction.
Un altro omaggio è stato tributato al produttore Quincy Jones.
Come riassumere la vita e la carriera di un genio il cui lavoro includeva jazz, musica classica, pop, R&B, colonne sonore di film e anche semplicemente riunire persone da tutto il settore?
I Grammy hanno accettato la sfida chiedendo al suo allievo Will Smith di presentare una serie di esibizioni che includevano Cynthia Erivo che a eseguito il suo arrangiamento di Fly Me to the Moon per Frank Sinatra, Lainey Wilson che ha cantato Let the Good Times Roll con Jacob Collier al pianoforte.
Stevie Wonder e Herbie Hancock hanno cantato Bluesettee We Are the World (insieme a un coro di ragazzi delle scuole superiori colpite da un incendio a Los Angeles).
Infine, Janelle Monae ha reso un commovente tributo al lavoro di produzione di Jones per Michael Jackson cantando Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough.
Invece di eseguire il loro duetto, vincitore del Grammy, Die With a Smile, Lady Gaga e Bruno Mars hanno dimostrato di essere una coppia potente cantando il classico dei Mamas & the Papas California Dreamin’.
Le star salite sul palco per presentare sono state Taylor Swift, Will Smith, Cardi B, SZA, Anthony Kiedis e Chad Smith dei Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gloria Estefan, Olivia Rodrigo, Queen Latifah e Victoria Monét .
